Those are the seven Elements of Design, and just so happened to be what Riverside students studied this week. Fifth graders searched the room for artworks that included the elements, while sixth graders designed their own element poster to teach their classmates. Plus, the dot is officially on display. Check out the collaborative piece next to the nurse's office!
As both fifth and sixth graders finish their cover designs, I continue to be impressed! Sixth graders show off their mad pattern skills, while fifth graders scratch away to reveal their culture in many colors. Also, props to Mrs. Sharp and the girls' volleyball team. Go Rockets!
Today Riverside students started celebrating International Dot Day by making a school-wide dot. This special day, inspired by the book The Dot by Peter H Reynolds, encourages students to try new things, make their mark, and express themselves creatively. Each homeroom will have the chance to make their own unique mark on the Riverside dot during art class. Students will also get a chance to hear the story before discussing courage, confidence, and creativity. What kind of mark will you make? This week sixth graders compared artists journals with science notebooks and discovered a few artists who successfully combined the fields of art and science. After watching a video on Theo Jansen and his Strandbeests, students got back to work on their artist journal covers. |
