Don't forget they are due this week!
The first project for both 5th and 6th graders was to design the cover of their artist journals. Students had to experiment with materials, fill the page, and overlap objects. Many used the wax resist technique, while others learned how to work with charcoal. I have seen some excellent problem solving and great creativity throughout the unit. Here are some wonderful examples. Don't forget they are due this week!

Artist, Pedro Reyes, has created Disarm, an entire orchestra of musical instruments using decommissioned weapons. The weapons were seized by the Mexican army from various drug cartels. Reyes believes it is his job as an artist to take our "negative instincts" and turn them into "creative instincts." He worked alongside a number of musicians and artists in order to build the fully mechanized orchestra. Some of the instruments will be on display in Pittsburgh this October. Learn more about Reyes and watch the instruments in action here. Illustrator, Mica Angela Hendricks, has a new partner in her artwork, her 4 year old daughter. Mother and daughter combine their very different styles in order to create colorful new creatures. Check out more of their surreal illustrations on Design Taxi. |
