Fifth graders are working hard on their artist journal covers this week. After coloring the entire page with oil pastels, they will paint over their design with black tempura paint. A little bit of dish soap added to the mix will make the paint easy to scratch off. The next step is to scratch off at least four images and four words that describe them and their culture. They are rockin' this project so far. Can't wait to see the results!
A few weeks ago I got tickets to a street art show curated by Shepard Fairey, the street artist made famous by his Obey series and Obama campaign art. Fairey gathered artwork from some of his favorite street artists in a warehouse space downtown Chicago. Everything about the show was amazing, including the scavenger hunt I completed the following day in order to find four recently completed murals in the same neighborhood. To the left is a picture of the signed print I bought, and below you can see a few examples of the featured artwork. |
